Has Obamania infected the Main Stream Media?

Before the “You are being mean to Barak!” comments start flowing from youObamaniacs, let me say that this is posted in fun. Because it is funny!

But on a more serious note: It is hard to deny the love affair that the main stream media has with him. But as with their once heated romance with John McCain, the media loves to build people up only to eventually tear them down again. But hey, don’t they say that “All is fair in love and war.”

Should the Democratic Party Apologize for Supporting Slavery?

Robert Oliver, the Managing Editor for the San Diego Times wrote a commentary for Black History Month raising the question whether or not the Democratic Party should apologize for supporting slavery.

In his Times commentary “Should the Democratic Party Apologize for Supporting Slavery?” Oliver makes it clear that he is not a Republican.

I’m an African-American political independent. The purpose of this article is not to debate the merits of belonging to a certain political party; nor to pursue political converts. The purpose is to clarify history and to ask does the Democratic Party owe African Americans an apology for
past support of slavery and racism?

He also goes on to present some very specific evidence:

Look at a portion of the 1860 platform: “That the normal condition of all the territory of the United States is that of freedom; That as our Republican fathers, when they had abolished slavery in all our national territory, ordained that ‘no person should be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law,’ it becomes our duty, by legislation, whenever such legislation is necessary, to maintain this provision of the Constitution against all attempts to violate it; and we deny the authority of Congress, of a territorial legislature, or of any individuals, to give legal existence to Slavery in any Territory of the United States….That we brand the recent re-opening of the African slave- trade, under the cover of our national flag, aided by perversions of judicial power, as a shame to (a) crime against humanity and a burning (for) our country and age; and we call upon Congress to take prompt and efficient measures for the total and final suppression of that execrable traffic.”

•According to the PBS’s American Experience it says of the Democratic Party platform in 1840: “They opposed the government’s interference with the spread of slavery.” It also said in 1852: “Democrats also supported the provisions of the Compromise of 1850 and united along pro-slavery lines.” It also said in 1856: “Democrats again united along a pro-slavery platform, endorsing states’ rights, the Fugitive Slave Law, and popular sovereignty in the territories.

•The PBS website on “The Rise and Fall of Jim Crow”
said: “The Democratic Party identified itself as the ‘white man’s party’ and demonized the Republican Party as being ‘Negro dominated,’ even though whites were in control.” Some Democrats formed the terrorist organization the Ku Klux Klan in the 1870’s. An article in the 1992 Encyclopedia Britannica under the “Reconstruction” heading reported: “The Democratic resentment led to the formation of the secret terroristic organizations such as the Ku Klux Klan and the Knights of the White Camilia. The use of fraud, violence, and intimidation helped Southern conservatives regain control of their state governments.” Blacks and White Republicans were the targets of the Klan’s wrath.

• Have the Democrats claimed a victory that they never earned? Here is the historical record that you can look up today on the Internet: In 1964, in a Democratic Congressional majority, in the Senate, 82% of the Republicans voted for the Act while only 69% of the Democrats voted for it. Every Southern Democratic Senator voted against it. In the House of Representatives, 80% of the Republicans voted for the Act, while only 61% of the Democrats voted for it. Ninety-two of the 103 Southern Democrats in the House voted against it. It is all in the Congressional Record. Also the ignored or forgotten 1957 Civil Rights Act (which Senator Strom Thurmond tried to torpedo) and the 1960 Civil Rights Act, designed to protect us from the Southern Democrats, were passed by the majority of Republicans in Congress and signed into law by Republican President Eisenhower. Republicans, not Democrats, historically have been in the majority in support of civil rights legislation from the beginning of their history. Even Democratic Senator John F. Kennedy was no outstanding exponent for civil rights before his presidential bid. Who said, “The time has come for equality of opportunity in sharing in government, in education, and in employment. It will not be stayed or denied. It is here!”? It was Republican Senate Minority Leader Everett Dirksen speaking of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.

• In the 1965 Voting Rights Act, in percentages, 73.4% of the Democratic Senators voted for the law and 93% of the Republican Senators voted for the law. 78.4% of the Democratic House Representatives voted for the law and 82.3% of the Republican House Representatives voted for the law.

• Republican Senator Trent Lott was nothing to shout about. (Same for the late Democrat Dixiecrat turned Republican Strom Thurmond). Lott was pilloried by the media after his remarks praising a Thurmond Dixiecrat presidency. However, Democratic Senator Robert Byrd said on national television, “There are white niggers.” I have not heard any cries of protests from recognizable Black leaders and politicians. (You know who they are.) It was reported that Senator Carol Mosely Braun excused him by saying that he was just “an old man.” An older Black man I knew who hated, with venom, White and Black Republicans also defended Byrd! By the way, Senator Byrd was a member of the Ku Klux Klan, the “Invisible Empire of the South,” years ago. He even recruited for the Klan as a “kleagle.” What if Trent Lott was an ex-Klan member and said “white niggers” on national television? We would have shouted “Crucify! Crucify!” right? We would have tarred and feathered him and ran him out of town. Was it because Byrd is a Democrat that we make excuses for him making racial slurs that no Republican could get away. He can get away with being a ex- Klan member while we tell the Republicans to “come clean”? Is not that “selective outrage” dysfunctional if not hypocritical?

• Rev. Sharpton said we never got our “40 acres and a mule.” Yes, we did, and they were taken away by a Democrat. Reparations to Black slaves were discussed by Republicans after the Civil War. Political activist and researcher M.D. Currington (websites: www.mdcurrington.tripod.com/mdc and http://www.moteandbeam.tripod.com/) writes, “On January 12, 1865, General William Tecumseh Sherman and Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton met with twenty Black community leaders in Savannah, Georgia to discuss freedom and reparations for former Black slaves.…on January 16, 1865, General Sherman issued Special Field Order No. 15, which set aside 7,600 square miles in a 30-mile wide tract of land along the Atlantic coast stretching from Charleston, South Carolina to St. John’s River near Jacksonville, Florida, for the exclusive settlement by Blacks…This Field Order also guaranteed former slaves U.S. military protection, 40 acres of tillable land per Black family, other provisions such as a mule or horse in order to work the land, and any other animal that was no longer useful to the military. By June 1865, over 40,000 former slaves were settled on 40-acre tracts of land. Over 400,000 acres were allocated. In September of 1865, Democrat President Andrew Johnson reversed Field Order No. 15, issued special pardons, and returned the land to former slaveowners.” The Republicans gave, yet a Democrat took it away.

None of the information presented here is new to me, or to David. The fact is that the Democratic Party and much of what it stands for have much of its roots in racism against Blacks. Unions were originally founded by northern whites to keep newly freed black slaves from taking their jobs. Planned Parenthood’s founder, Margaret Sanger was a believer in and promoter of eugenics. She spoke to groups like the Klu Klux Kan about the same theories of population control that inspired Adolph Hitler. And the gun control movement that Democrats are so proud of was at its root an effort to disarm African Americans who might demand that their civil rights be honored, by any means necessary.

So the fact that the Democrat Party fought against ending slavery, instituted Jim Crowe laws and fought against the civil rights of blacks should come as no surprise. But I am surprised that Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton, Julian Bond or any of the other “civil rights leaders” have never publicly demanded that the Democrat Party officially apologize for its support of slavery and racism.

But then again, that would mean that they would have to acknowledge that it happened in the first place. And that would kind of mess up their version of history.

Should Democrats apologize for its support of slavery and Jim Crow segregation? Unequivecably, YES! But the Republicans should also apologize, because they were the ones who sold out Blacks in the south during reconstruction in 1876 with the “Great Compromise” – the Republicans get the White House while federal troops were removed from the former Confederacy at a critical time – leaving Blacks to suffer in a Jim Crow society for another 100 years. The Republican Party oppose affirmative action. And the Republican Party endorses and utilizes wedge issue politics and questionable practices(e.g. Willie Horton) to win elections.

The problem here in America is that we continue to refuse to address the legacy of slavery and racism that still impacts our nation. If you believe that the past is the best predictor of the future, then African American mistrust of government – regardless of which party is in power – is well founded. BOTH parties have at times supported and opposed the progress of African Americans.

The real issue is that until we sufficiently address the legacy of our past as a nation, the future of African Americans will continue to be in question – regardless of an “apology”. Michelle Obama hinted at the quandry facing Blacks in her oft-quoted statement, “for the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country.” Black Americans are indeed patriotic, but as Ms. Obama’s comments reveal, there is also an underlying mistrust and frustration with our nation. And until we as a nation address the roots of this mistrust, we (every American) will not get past this discussion.

You are right about the “Great Compromise”. That is why I fight so hard to not allow our party to compromise our values again, simply to gain or maintain power. But because I do that, you would call me a close minded ideologue.

But let us not forget, it was the Democrats who were the perpetrators of the evils that went on during this time.

On another note: Does saying that re-electing President Bush is akin to dragging a black man to death behind a truck is not promoting a wedge issue? What about calling President Bush “…our Bull Connor”? How about forcing our children to stay in failing schools, calling those who believe in enforcing our immigration laws “bigots” or pushing tax increases on the wealthy? These are all wedge issues that Democrats love to use.

NAACP head is paid by tribes, backs their plan- Conflict of Interest?

Please forgive the lateness of this post. But it was the discussion surrounding this issue that prompted the formation of this blog in the first place. So, it seems only appropriate for us to share our thoughts on it with our readers.

Last week the Sacramento Bee reported that Alice Huffman, President of the NAACP’s California Conference was serving as a paid consultant for those who support the Indian Gaming compacts, while at the same time advocating for these compacts as the head of the state NAACP. And according to the Bee this is not the first time.

According to the Bee:

The president of the California NAACP has been paid more than $40,000 in consulting fees – and the organization itself has received $60,000 – from a coalition of Indian tribes at the same time the civil rights group has endorsed four ballot measures pushed by its tribal benefactors.

The payments to Alice Huffman, who has served as president of the state conference of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People since 1999, continue a three-year pattern in which Huffman’s political firm has been paid hundreds of thousands of dollars by special interest groups.

Those same interests, including tobacco and pharmaceutical companies, have also donated tens of thousands of dollars directly to the state NAACP while receiving the organization’s backing.

It is commonplace for political campaigns to hire consultants for outreach to various constituencies and ethnic groups. But Huffman’s dual role as a paid political strategist and president of a respected civil rights organization has raised questions about whether the group’s endorsement can be bought.

I have to say that I do know Alice and have found her to be genuinely committed to serving the interests of the NAACP. And I truly do not believe that she sees anything wrong with getting paid to advocate on behalf of a position that she would have advocated for anyway. I have to admit that I can understand the reasoning. However, I would not be as quick to write off the potential conflict of interest as Ms. Huffman seems to be doing in this article.

The first question that came to my mind was, “When advocating for these issues before or on behalf of the NAACP, does she disclose that she is a paid consultant for the group supporting the position she is advocating?” I seem to remember another Black opinion leader, Armstrong Williams being racked over the coals a few years ago for being supportive of No Child Left Behind in opinion pieces and speeches because he failed to mention that he was paid by the Bush Administration to promote the policy. His argument was that he was always supportive of the landmark education policy and was simply being paid to express an opinion which he already held.

I can’t disagree with that. But I will say the same thing I said back then. As an opinion leader, he had an ethical obligation to disclose his contractual arrangement. Otherwise, those who value his “unbiased” opinion would know all the facts. The same can be said of Alice Huffman. Although, as the head of a major civil rights organization and not just an opinion leader, she has an even greater responsibility to provide full disclosure to the NAACP membership and to those to whom she spoke to while wearing her NAACP hat.

On another note: Right or wrong, it is a commonly held belief that many leaders in the Black community can be bought off. One only need consider Jesse Jackson and Al Shaprton’s history of shaking down corporate America to prove my point. Well, it is hard to argue that this conduct by Alice Huffman does anything but further this negative perception. Yes, she has to earn a living. Yes, she has also gotten some of the same groups to also contribute financially to the work of the NAACP. But taking money to advocate a policy and then using your hat as the head of a respected organization to conduct that advocacy just doesn’t pass the smell test.

As a matter of fact, I wonder how many of her current political clients would still be contracting with her if she were not President of the State NAACP?
__________________________________________________

I am not mad at Alice for getting paid. I would not have said some of the things she said (see the Gucci handbag comment), but I am not mad at her…

The bottom line: Alice Huffman is a political consultant – she has never hidden this fact the entire time she has served as President of the California State Conference of the NAACP. During her tenure, the California State Conference has grown from a non-existent entity to a significant, substantive organization organizing and advocating on behalf of minority and disenfranchised Californians.

Alice is tough – she comes with a reputation of effectiveness and and ability to “get down to business” with the best of them… and as a protege of arguably the most talented politician to grace the halls of the Capital (Da Speaker, Willie Brown), she has earned her stripes. Plus, unlike Armstrong Williams (whom Craig pointed out in his column), Alice is an advocate – not a neutral observer. Armstrong was putting himself out there as a neutral opinion leader who “happened” to support the No Child Left Behind education policy (I am ashamed to call him my fraternity brother… we can talk about that later). Alice, on the other hand, has NEVER put herself out to be a “neutral” party offering her analysis. She is a paid advocate. She gets paid to persuade targeted publics to believe a particular point of view.

Alice has made it a point to disclose to the members of the State Conference those business dealings that her private firm, AC Public Affairs, that may create even an appearance of conflict with the NAACP. And because of her effectiveness at building an operation – providing coordination, training, development and funding for much needed advocacy programming that generates significant public attention around the efforts of the NAACP statewide – the members are in no hurry to see her go.

As for the contributions to the State Conference from special interests: I get the point that leaders and organizations have a special obligation to ensure that they are above reproach. However, we live in the real world where real actions have real consequences. We live in a world where attacks on civil rights occur almost daily, and where the need for resources is not met by contributions from the community. Across the nation, the NAACP receives money from tobacco, liquor, and corporations like Wal-Mart – and yet has only supported policies and positions which are consistent with the mission of the organization. When have you seen Julian Bond or the NAACP out pimping Lucky Strikes, Schlitz Malt Liquor or Viagra? You haven’t and you won’t – period. And while you will find no instances of the NAACP out pimping for these companies, you WILL find the organization out opposing policies which could be viewed as supportive of such interests – including hitting Wal-Mart hard for its perceived opposition to employee benefits and issues with organized labor. No matter who pays for it, the work still needs to get done – legislation, the courts and the lives of individual victims wait for no one.

The much larger and more important question that should be asked is why such a storied, venerable organization has to look to corporate entities to fund its operations in the first place. Time was, the NAACP was funded by the people to do this important work – the churches, civic organizations, individuals and families. Now corporations have supplanted the community as the ‘bread and butter’ of the organization – a model which does compromise the authenticity of the organization. This is not unique to the NAACP, as other organizations also must look outside the community to fund their operations. With African Americans spending an estimated $630 – $690 billion in earned income in the larger American economy, the inability of African American institutions to significantly access this market to fund ongoing advocacy threatens the gains made by the community over the last 60 years. Without the ability for its institutions to be authentic – to be fully independent of a system it must often pressure for change – the disengagement of the community from its institutions will continue unabated and result in a regression and errosion of the standing of blacks in America.

David,

Those are all good points. No one is questioning Alice’s ability or effectiveness. But let’s be real! You and I both know that in politics, perception is reality.

The general perception is that most liberal black organizations and their leadership have been bought and paid for. This includes the National and California State Conference of the NAACP. The fact that the state president of the organization is getting paid by special interests to lobby on their behalf only furthers that perception.

If you truly want to know why “such a storied, venerable organization has to look to corporate entities to fund its operations” (By the way you forgot homosexual groups, labor unions and the democratic party), you only need to look at situations like this one. Alice’s actions bring into question the credibility of an organization that already has credibility issues in the eyes of many who once believed in them.

Have you ever considered that maybe the reason why the people don’t give to the work of the NAACP is because they no longer believe that the NAACP represents their interests or values? (A topic for a future discussion.)

California Assembly honors man convicted of torturing black women

Dr. Ron Karanga, the founder of Kwannza was honored today on the floor of the California Legislature during their annual Black History Month observance. But what they failed to mention was the fact that Dr. Karanga is a convicted felon who was sent to prison for torturing two black women who were members of his cult, United Slaves.

In my post “Kwannza Claus is Coming to Town” I detailed the crimes of which Karanga was convicted.

A May 14, 1971, article in the Los Angeles Times described the testimony of one of them: “Deborah Jones, who once was given the Swahili title of an African queen, said she and Gail Davis were whipped with an electrical cord and beaten with a karate baton after being ordered to remove their clothes. She testified that a hot soldering iron was placed in Miss Davis’ mouth and placed against Miss Davis’ face and that one of her own big toes was tightened in a vise. Karenga, head of US, also put detergent and running hoses in their mouths, she said.”

While I firmly believe that people can change, I find it absurd that we would honor a man who is guilty of such a crime and has shown no repentance what so ever. The irony of this whole matter is that the man who invented Kawanzza, which means “first fruits of the harvest” in Swahili would want us to ignore his fruits.

The Bible says “By their fruits you shall know them.” and that “every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.”

The New Underground Railroad is looking for conductors

The New Underground Railroad started as the result of numerous conversations that have taken place with Black leaders from across the country. It was started with the goal of
dispelling the Myth that Blacks are incapable of being success without government programs. It will expose the Democrat Party’s legacy of bigotry and hatred.

Over time we have invited several likeminded black thinkers from across the nation to contribute to the discussion. Well, now the time has come for us to expand our reach and ask you, our loyal readers to join the fight to free our people from the psychological slavery of liberalism.

If you would like to be considered to be added as an official Conductor for the New Underground Railroad (Click Here)

Abortion = Modern Day Genocide!

While many celebrate the passage of Row v. Wade they ignore the silent genocide that has killed twice as many African Americans as AIDS, Violent Crime, Accidents, Cancer and Heart Disease combined.

Consider the following facts taken from abortion providers themselves:

• Abortion has killed more than 13 million African American babies, making it the number one cause of death for Blacks.

• Since 1973, abortion has reduced the black population by over 25 percent.

• Every three days, more African-Americans are killed by abortion than have been killed by the Ku Klux Klan in its entire history.

• A black baby is more than three times as likely to be killed in the womb than a white baby.

• Planned Parenthood operates the nation’s largest chain of abortion clinics and almost 80 percent of its facilities are located in minority neighborhoods.

• About 13 percent of American women are black, but they submit to over 35 percent of the abortions.

And while many will refute the claim that these facts point to an organized effort at genocide, the intent of these efforts are revealed in the words of the founder of Planned Parenthood, Margaret Sanger.

• It [charity] encourages the healthier and more normal sections of the world to shoulder the burden of unthinking and indiscriminate fecundity of others; which brings with it, as I think the reader must agree, a dead weight of human waste. (From Margaret Sanger’s Early Writings 1922)

• Always to me any aroused group was a good group, and therefore I accepted an invitation to talk to the women’s branch of the Ku Klux Klan…” (Margaret Sanger’s Autobiography)

• The minister’s work is also important and he should be trained, perhaps by the Federation as to our ideals and the goal that we hope to reach. We do not want word to go out that we want to exterminate the Negro population, and the minister is the man who can straighten out that idea if it ever occurs to any of their more rebellious members (November 1939 memorandum entitled “Suggestions for the Negro Project,”).

THE FACTS DON’T LIE!

The Celebration the passage of Roe vs. Wade is a celebration of the modern day genocide of African Americans. Through abortion, Margaret Sanger and Planned Parenthood have accomplished what the Klu Klux Klan could have only dreamed of… GOVERNMENT FUNDED GENOCIDE!

Lawmaker Tells Blacks To ‘Get Over’ Slavery

During debate on a state resolution formally apologizing to African Americans for slavery, a Virginia state legislator suggested that Blacks should simply “Get Over” slavery.

The Associated Press reported:

RICHMOND, Va. — A state legislator said black people “should get over” slavery and questioned whether Jews should apologize “for killing Christ,” drawing denunciations Tuesday from stunned colleagues.

Del. Frank D. Hargrove, 79, made his remarks in opposition to a measure that would apologize on the state’s behalf to the descendants of slaves.

In an interview published Tuesday in The Daily Progress of Charlottesville, Hargrove said slavery ended nearly 140 years ago with the Civil War and added that “our black citizens should get over it.”

The newspaper also quoted him as saying, “are we going to force the Jews to apologize for killing Christ?”

Black lawmakers swiftly denounced Hargrove’s comments.

“When somebody tells me I should just get over slavery, I can only express my emotion by projecting that I am appalled, absolutely appalled,” said Del. Dwight C. Jones, head of the Legislative Black Caucus.

Del. David L. Englin also criticized Hargrove’s remarks, recalling that his grandparents were driven from their homes in Poland “by people who believed that as Jews, we killed Christ.”
When Hargrove rose to speak, he told Englin he didn’t care about Englin’s religion. “I think your skin was a little too thin,” Hargrove said as lawmakers gasped and groaned.

Now while I will agree that many black leaders spend way too much time encouraging our people to play the “Victim” role. This guy went a bit too far.

While slavery did end 140 years ago, segregation and Jim Crowe laws continues well into the lat 1960s and early 70s. In fact, I am part of the first generation to grow up “equal under the law.” And so the stigma of past discrimination still lingers with many in my generation, as it was passed down form our parents to us.

So it is easy to say “Get over it”, but actually getting over it is not that easy. I put it this way in another piece that I wrote:

At 36 years old, I am a part of the first generation to grow up after the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. So unlike my father, or his father before him, I was born “Equal under the law.” But that did not mean that I was born in a system that promoted equality. 400 years of slavery, the subsequent 100 years of Jim Crow and the liberal lead welfare/entitlement state did much to weaken the black man and destroy his family and community. These systems were designed to keep blacks down and that is exactly what they did. The reason many blacks have a victim mentality is that not too long ago, they were victims.

Take my father for example. He left the Air force after World War II a fully trained and certified electrician. But he could only get a job washing cars. You see, the unions would not let him join their ranks because his father was not a union member. Never mind the fact that at the time my grandfather was working, they did not allow blacks to join the union. My mother experienced Whites only drinking fountains and lunch counters. She remembers “Bull” Conner turning police dogs and fire hoses on innocent blacks like it was yesterday. These experiences are not easily dismissed by those who experience them. They play a major role in shaping one’s world view. For my parents, everything in society told them that it was was government and whites who were in control…not them. And this is the world view that they have passed on to us, their children. It was their reality.

My reality is somewhat different. I can eat where I want. I can go where I want. The law states that I can not be denied any opportunity because of the color of my skin. And there are teams of lawyers, judges and politicians willing to fight to protect these rights. There are no laws preventing me from starting a business, getting a good education or supporting the political candidate of my choosing. This is part of my reality; the only part that many conservatives are willing to acknowledge.

I also realize that there are those whom I will encounter that will prejudge me based on the color of my skin, whether they admit it or not. Racism is not dead, just diminished. I also must acknowledge that the 1964 Civil Rights Act did not undo the 500 years of indoctrination and brain washing black Americans underwent. Nor did it create a level playing field in regards to asset wealth.

There were “The Haves” and “The Have Nots” and nothing happened to change the fact that blacks would be overwhelmingly in the category of “The Have Nots.” This meant that they would have much less capitol to start businesses, purchase homes or to pass on to future generations. As hard as my parents worked and as much they tried, they did not have a home or any other significant assets to pass on to their children. This is too often the norm in black America. But this is also part of my reality; the only part that many liberals are willing to acknowledge.

I don’t believe that we will ever truly address the issue of race in America until blacks and whites; liberals and conservatives are willing to accept the truth about where we have come from and where we are now. Whites cannot celebrate creating equality in the rules of the game after attempting to knee-cap the other team’s players and spotting themselves 20 points. Along the same lines, we cannot be so preoccupied with the unfairness of how things started that we spend all our time complaining to referees, thus letting the other team run up the score. This is exactly what has been taking place the last 40 years.
Not that Jessie Jackson and Jesse Lee Peterson haven’t offered considerable subtance in dealing with the very serious issue of race and racism in America, but acting as race-baiting cheerleaders for their respective teams detracts from all the good w0rk in which they are involved. How can America have a frank and honest discussion about race as long as people are willing to feed into the hatred and resentment that is so deeply rooted in our society on both sides?

As for my perspective; I will say this. Being black is part of who I am. But it does not dictate who I am or who I will become. And while I cannot control the fairness of the circumstances around me, I can control how I react to those circumstances. I can choose to learn from them or whine about them. As I approach each challenge I can choose see it as a stumbling block or a stepping stone; as an obstacle or a building block. I can choose to fight the fight of ignorance and poverty or I can pawn in off on my children for them to fight it. These are my choices.

Social Insecurity- A Bad Investment For Black America

The most misrepresented government program in modern history is the social welfare retirement program, better known as Social Security. Originally set up as a program to care for single widows with children, it has become nothing more than the worlds largest pyramid scheme. And little do we realize, the average Black family is at the bottom of the pyramid!

A 2004 study done by the Heritage Foundation points out that because life expectancies and incomes differ for varying segments of society, so does the amount each group can expect to receive from Social Security. And what group has proven to be the biggest victim of the Social Security Scam… African Americans.

“…the most tragic examples of Social Security’s reverse-Robin Hood effect occur in congressional districts heavily populated by African-American workers. Here we see negative rates of return so high that one wonders how a hard-working young man in an inner-city neighborhood in Baltimore, New Orleans, Atlanta or New York City can ever move up the socio-economic ladder.”

For example:

“The most senior Democrat on the House Ways and Means Committee, the vociferous Charles Rangel (Harlem), and his thoughtful colleague, William Jefferson (New Orleans) , will have to defend this arrangement in spite of near-confiscatory rates of return of negative 4.5% for young male workers in their districts.”

Now this is not to say that this negative return is caused by their being Black. However, there are many factors that go into determining how much one will actually get back from Social Security. And those factors tend to work against the average African American.

Take income for example. One’s lifetime earnings (at least that portion that SSI taxes are levied against) is probably the biggest factor in determining one’s monthly SSI payment upon retirement. This tends to work against Blacks because our average lifetime income is much less than that of whites. Higher unemployment in the Black community also contributes to decreased lifetime income and thus, decreased SSI benefit levels.

Another factor that is working against Blacks has to do with retirement age. On average, Blacks are more likely to have jobs requiring physical labor. This type of work places additional stress on one’s body. Often requiring them to retire earlier or go on disability. This means that they are less likely to work until the statutory age at which one receives full SSI retirement benefits. How often have you seen a 65 year old carpenter, garbage man or welder? Not often, I’ll bet.

A similar factor that results in Blacks getting less is average life expectancy. Blacks, Black males in particular, have a much shorter life expectancy than do whites. With an average life expectancy of only 62 years old, the average Black male won’t even make it to the statutory retirement age of 65. So what happens to the money he puts into the system? You’re gonna love this!

If he is unmarried, all the money he paid into the system becomes a windfall to the government. And if he is married, his wife must choose between his SSI benefits and her own, which ever is more. You see, she cannot get both! Even if both she and her husband had been paying into the system for 40 years, she must choose the greater of the two benefit amounts and the rest is a windfall to the government spending. And that is what Democrats are fighting to protect… their spending.

For years, Democrats and Republicans have taken money from Social Security to pay for their precious pork barrel programs and have left nothing more than a worthless IOU in its place. The “Lock Box” that Democrats speak of, does not exist. It has never existed. The money you are paying in today is going to pay for those who are on SSI today, plus a few bloated government programs.

Democrats are in complete denial. But Republicans have seen the writing on the wall. As the “Baby Boomers” prepare to retire, the chickens are coming home to roost. Because there will be a dramatic increase in the number of retirees and it is anticipated that they will live much longer than their parents, it is projected that by 2042 Social Security will be bankrupt. That is why Republicans are proposing a partial privatization of Social Security. It is the best way to end this absurd practice and restore equity to the system for all Americans.

How does it end the government shell game? By creating individual lock boxes. Each worker who pays into the system will have an account that belongs to him/her. It will no longer be a part of the general fund and thus will not be available for congress to spend. No more IOUs!

How does it help Blacks? It will take the money once was unlikely to ever be seen again, and place it into lock box, so that they can pass that money on to their children. For many, this will constitute most of the wealth that they will have to pass on to future generations. Additionally, because this money will be invested it will earn far greater return what they are paying into the current failing system.

Retirement protection, wealth accumulation and forcing the government to live within its means are all byproducts of privatization. No one will be forced to pay into a system that won’t be there for them and all people would be able to retire in dignity. This will make for a stronger Social Security System and a stronger America.

Congressional Black Caucus gives Jefferson standing ovation

The following article was posted on the CNN Political Ticker:

Congressional Black Caucus gives Jefferson standing ovation

WASHINGTON (CNN) — On the same day that the 110th Democratic-led Congress convenes with a plan to immediately pass lobbyist and ethics reforms, the Congressional Black Caucus Thursday gave a standing ovation to Rep. William Jefferson, the Louisiana Democrat who faces an FBI probe into bribery allegations.

“The haters… and negative nabobs…the people who spoke against him couldn’t prevail against the people who spoke for him,” Dr. Michael Eric Dyson, master of ceremonies for the CBC’s celebratory event, said Thursday morning.

Incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, led the charge to remove Jefferson from the House Ways and Means Committee last spring and has said she will not consider reinstating him to the powerful post until he is cleared of all allegations.

The FBI is currently conducting an investigation that alleges Jefferson accepted $100,000 from a telecommunications businessman — $90,000 of which was later recovered in the congressman’s freezer.

Rally Addresses Upcoming Election

It is rare that a Republican urges the overthrowing of the government, but Craig DeLuz did just that recently when he spoke during a voter awareness drive hosted by the Sacramento NAACP.

Voting is a form of non-violent revolution, said DeLuz, former chairman of the California Black Republican Council and brother of former chapter president David DeLuz.

“You can overthrow the government,” he said. “If you’re not doing your job, we will vote you out.”

LA Times Plays the Race Card. But It’s not going to work!

In a feeble effort to portray Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger as a racist, the Los Angles Times released an excerpt from a tape that was recorded during a private meeting.

(Click Here to Listen to the tape)

The LA Times goes on to detail the closed door conversation:

They move on to Garcia, a Cathedral City lawmaker who is the daughter of Puerto Rican immigrants. On her website, Garcia is described as “born on the Lower East Side of New York to teen parents.”

“Bonnie Garcia is great,” Kennedy says on the recording. “She’s a ball-buster. She’s great. Is she Puerto Rican?”

“She seems to me like Cuban,” Schwarzenegger says.

“She’s not Mexican,” Kennedy replies.

“No,” the governor agrees.

“But she said something,” Kennedy says, “and I thought, I thought she was Puerto Rican.”

Then Schwarzenegger offers a theory.

“She maybe is Puerto Rican or the same thing as Cuban. I mean, they are all very hot. They have the, you know, part of the black blood in them and part of the Latino blood in them that together makes it.”

My first question is how did they get this tape? Who was recording it? Well it appears that from time to time the governor records some of his meetings so that his speech writers can capture his speech patterns and language styles on policy issues. So, he does not record all of his conversations. But this was clearly meant for internal use and must have been leaked by someone inside the administration.

My second question is what are people supposed to be so offended about? Are Latinos and Blacks supposed to be up in arms because the governor said we are hot? I AM HOT!!! And so is Assemblywoman Garcia!

I’ll tell you what does offend me though… The fact that the liberals like the LA Times and gubenatorial candidate Phil Angelides would think so little of Blacks and Latinos to believe that such trivial garbage is all that we care about.

Even the most liberal of liberal Blacks aren’t falling for this one. In a statement released by Dr Amos Brown, the President of the San Francisco NAACP he stated:

Anyone who knows the Governor as I do shares my deep offense to Mr. Angelides’ calculated political attack on the Governor today.

“Mr. Angelides’ record of divisive and partisan politics stands in sharp contrast to this Governor’s leadership and commitment to all communities.”

While I do not agree with the governor on everything, he has done more to empower people of color within his administration and in the community than any of his recent predicesors. He has appointed more people of color (Blacks and Latinos in particular) than Gray Davis ever did. And unlike Davis, he has actually given them the authority necessary to do their jobs.

But you won’t see the Times reporting on that; because it actually portrays a Republican in a good light. Not media bias here, eh?

Uncommon Sense Radio- Race Pimps…

This week’s edition of Uncommon Sense Radio features Craig DeLuz and fellow member of The New Underground Railroad, Mali Currington discuss their concerns about the exploitation of racial issues by black liberals and black conservatives. (Listen in!)

Good Posts to read:

– Jessie Helms is back! But this time he’s Black!

– Jessie Lee Peterson & Jesse Jackson- Pimpin Race for the Right and the Left

– If George Bush is our “Bull” Conner, Charlie Rangel is our Stepin Fetchit!

– How Do Democrats get the support of Black Leaders? Rent-A-Negro.com!

Jessie Helms is back! But this time he’s Black!

I thought this commercial was a skit from some comedy show until I saw who sponsored it… Vernon Robinson, a Black congressional candidate in North Carolina.I had a chance to meet Vernon a few years ago when he was running for congress. His campaign slogan at the time was “Jessie Helms is back. But this time He’s Black!”

Once again, another great example of a race pimp for the right! (Video Here)

Yes, I said it! Just those he mocks on the left (Jessie Jackson and Al Shaprton), Vernon Robinson is nothing more than a glory hound seeking to use the vast racial divide in this country to elevate himself to icon status. Except unlike Sharpton and Jackson, he is pimpin’ for the right.

Like I wrote of Jessie Lee Peterson in my piece “Jesse Lee Peterson & Jessie Jackson- Pimpin Race for the Right and the Left

His goal is not to tell the truth, but to stir up racial tensions by telling conservatives that liberals and blacks are what is wrong with this country.

And like Peterson, he does shed light on some very real issues, but the manner in which he does it is more about self-aggrandizement and grand standing than about really solvin problems.

If Black Republicans are to ever be taken seriously it will be by holding up examples like JC Watts, Lynn Swan, Ken Blackwell and Bishop Keith Butler as examples of who we are.

Memo to Vernon Robinson: Leave the comedy skits to the comedians!

To fight Jessie and the unions, Walmart hires their own Civil Rights Pimp

Former aide to Dr. Martin Luther King and two-term Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young is now working for Walmart as a paid corporate cheerleader. And while I know he’s getting paid, at least he is working for the good guys.

Associated Press is reporting:

At the grand opening of a Wal-Mart in a black suburb of Atlanta, civil rights leader Andrew Young danced with store clerks, bouncing to the song “We Are Family.”

He also posed with a $1 million check from the company — a donation for a memorial to the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. to be built on the National Mall in Washington.

Young took part in the pep rally in his new position as a paid corporate cheerleader for Wal-Mart — a role that has perplexed some of his longtime civil rights colleagues, who have all but accused him of going over to the enemy.

Once again, a black man decides to stray from the liberal path and other blacks are quick with the verbal lynching.

The Rev. Joseph Lowery, known as the dean of the civil rights movement, said Young — the 74-year-old former Atlanta mayor and U.N. ambassador — is acting as a “lone wolf” in working for Wal-Mart.

“Maybe he knows something that other advocates for economic justice don’t,” Lowery said in a statement.

I’ll tell you what he knows…. People can’t shop at stores that union bosses have helped close down. And oh yeah… People also want to work!

On Wednesday, Young hugged customers, signed autographs and posed for pictures with local dignitaries while singing Wal-Mart’s praises. He cut the ribbon at a store that replaces an abandoned Kmart that closed two decades ago in the mostly black neighborhood.

The new store has received more than 8,000 applicants for 500 jobs. Young said he expects new housing and more business to follow Wal-Mart’s lead and come to the suburban area that is home to some of the country’s most affluent blacks but has stagnated in attracting jobs.

This same sort of response occurred at a Walmart just outside the City of Chicago where 25,000 people applied for 325 jobs. And just like those who are attacking Young, the liberals on the Chicago City Council refused to support Walmart and refused to allow the store to be located within the city, despite the fact that they were providing much needed jobs and generous philanthropy to the community. I guess towing the union line is more important than helping the community or helping people poor people find jobs.

But I have one question…. If Walmart is so abusive of their employees, why are so many people (in liberal communities mind you) flocking to work for them?

Chris Rock Presents “How Not To Get Your A** Kicked By The Police.” (Video Here)

First let me say this:

There is no excuse for the police to verbally harass or physically assault innocent black youth (or anyone for that matter). And the use of excessive force against criminal suspects should not be tolerated either.

But this video parodies something that I have said for years. Anytime a policeman pulls a car over or in anyway interacts with a criminal suspect, it is already a highly charged situation. DON’T MAKE MATTERS WORSE!

WARNING: THIS SKIT IS PG-13 AND CONTAINS SOME FOUL LANGUAGE

(Video Here)

Is it possible that the policeman pulled you over for no reason? Yes.

Do you have rights against illegal detention and unreasonable search and seizure? Yes.

But yelling at; cursing at; being belligerent with or ignoring the instructions of an individual who is armed and who’s primary concern at the moment is walking away from this confrontation with his/her life does not help the situation. It will only serve to put the officer more on edge.

If you believe that you are being treated unfairly, be polite and do as the officer directs you to do. But make sure to get his badge number so that at a later time you can file a complaint with the police department.

Don’t just go to the NAACP. You see, if you only file a complaint with them, it will not trigger an official investigation. And while some chapters of the NAACP do have exceptional follow through on these issues, many do not. The best thing to do is to file complaints with both.

Folks, we have spent so much of our time telling our black youth about their rights when dealing with the police that we have forgotten to share with them how to RESPONSIBLY exercise those rights in a way that will first- protect their lives and secondly- protect their civil liberties.

California Young Democrats celebrate 45 million deaths since Roe v. Wade

The California Young Democrats with a coat hanger and a smile visited the offices of California State Legislators to deliver a message celebrating the fact that the number of abortion related deaths has decreased since the passage of Roe v. Wade. But what they don’t mention is the fact that over 45 million babies have been killed in the process.

Their message, which was taped to the coat hanger stated:

Dear Legislator.

This weekend marks the 33rd Anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark decisions for a woman’s right to chose. However, as the topic of abortion continues to be relentlessly debated, we hope that you will remember that before 1973 many women were force to choose back-alley options, using items such as coat hangers, to terminate pregnancies instead of seeking proper medical assistance because it was prohibited. The decision to terminate pregnancy is one of the most serious decisions a person can go through. As you vote this year, please consider making sure that women struggling with these decisions have the ability to consult medical professionals that can help them make the best decision.

Sincerely,

California Young Democrats

This appeal is typical of the pro-abortion lobby in that they are selective in the facts they quote when praising Rove v. Wade. According to their own statistics from the Alan Guttmacher Institute:

52% of U.S. women obtaining abortions are younger than 25: Women aged 20-24 obtain 33% of all abortions, and teenagers obtain 19%.

Black women are more than 3 times as likely as white women to have an abortion, and Hispanic women are 2 1/2 times as likely.
2/3 of all abortions are among never-married women.
Over 60% of abortions are among women who have had 1 or more children.
48% of abortions are among women who have previously had an abortion.
27% of abortions are among women who are pregnant for the first time.
On average, women give at least 3 reasons for choosing abortion: 3/4 say that having a baby would interfere with work, school or other responsibilities; about 2/3 say they cannot afford a child; and 1/2 say they do not want to be a single parent or are having problems with their husband or partner.

A Few interesting facts to note:
1. According to their numbers, about 1 in 5 abortions are performed on minors.

2. Notice that Rape, incest or the health of the mother are not on the list of reasons why women are ending their pregnancies.

3. Abortion advocate’s efforts to terminate of the pregnancies of ethnic minorities (blacks in particular) have been overwhelmingly successful.

I fail to recognize what there actually is to celebrate… 45 million dead babies? Black genocide? Abortion as a contraceptive? Sacrificing our daughters on the altar of reproductive choice?

Just a little perspective…

The House has been run like a plantation, declares Clinton (Video Here)

On a day when most of the country was celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. New York Senator Hillary Clinton spent her day off with nationally renowned race-pimp Al Sharpton name calling and race baiting. She even went as far as accusing Republicans of running the House of Representatives like a plantation.

(CNN Video Here)

Clinton’s specific quote was:

“When you look at how the House of Representatives has been run; it has been runt like a plantation.”

The funniest part of the Senator’s comments was right after she made the plantation analogy. In an effort to egg on the crowd she declares:

“And you know what I’m talking about!”

Apparently, the people in the predominantly black audience didn’t know what she was talking about.

But needless to say, Clinton’s favorite house negro came to her defense and explained to the media exactly what Hilary meant to say.

“Because of seniority and colloquial politics the bosses make the decisions.”

Maybe I am mistaken, but isn’t that exactly how the Democrat Party treat blacks? The party bosses (ie. Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid or Nancy Pelosi) control the overseers (ie. Al Sharpton, Maxine Waters or Al Rangel) who are then in charge of keeping the negroes in line. And if one dare step out of line (ie. Michael Steele, JC Watts or Ward Connerly) it is the job of these overseers to give them the appropriate tongue lashing. At least that is how I see it.

And as for those poor oppressed house democrats; the Republican man is obviously guilty once again of keeping them down. I propose that President Bush issue a new Emancipation Proclamation. In this one he will declare all house Democrats free from the bondage of elective office. And from this day forth, they shall be free to leave Congress anytime they so choose.

Black Man offered leadership position in Klu Klux Klan. Inspiration behind Chapelle Show sketch?

Twenty-five years ago Ron Stallworth was asked to lead the Colorado Springs Chapter of the Klu Klux Klan. That would have made Stallworth the first Black man to lead a branch of the KKK.

According to the Desert News:

About 25 years ago, Ron Stallworth was asked to lead the Ku Klux Klan chapter in Colorado Springs. Problem was, the outgoing Klan leader didn’t know that Stallworth is black.

“He asked me to take over the lead because I was a good, loyal Klansman,” said Stallworth, who had been in constant phone contact with the Klan leader while leading a yearlong Colorado Springs police investigation into the Klan.

Stallworth later moved to Utah, where he recently retired after nearly 20 years as an investigator for the Utah Department of Public Safety. He says he’s amazed that no one ever caught on to the investigation he led starting in 1979. After he was offered Klan leadership, he quietly disappeared.

As a memento Stallworth still carries his Klan membership card — signed by David Duke.

How politically correct have we gotten when even the KKK institutes and Affirmative Action Program?

On another note: This story does remind me of a skit done on the Chapelle Show about a leader in the white supremacist movement who turned out to be a blind black man who had no idea he was black.

I found the video of the sketch, but after watching it, I thought it might be a little too over the top to post. For those of you who have seen it what do you think? Should I post it?

Rush Limbaugh and NAACP agree… McNabb is not that Good!

I could not resist commenting on this, most absurd subject. Last week J. Whyatt Mondesire, the publisher of The Philidelphia Sunday Sun a weekly black newspaper and the local NAACP branch president wrote a commentary criticizing Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb. He concludes that because the black quarterback has chosen not to scramble as much as he used to, he has betrayed his race.

Today ESPN is reporting:

He wrote that McNabb’s tendency to run the ball early in his career “not only confused defenses, it also thrilled Eagles fans,” but that abandoning that element “by claiming that ‘everybody expects black quarterbacks to scramble’ not only amounts to a breach of faith but also belittles the real struggles of black athletes who’ve had to overcome real racial stereotypcasting in addition to downright segregation.”

Mondesire said the bottom line is that McNabb is “not that good.” “In essence Donny, you are mediocre at best,” Mondesire wrote. “And trying to disguise that fact behind some concocted reasoning that African American quarterbacks who can scramble and who can run the ball are somehow lesser field generals … is more insulting off the field than on.”

Unless I am wrong, didn’t Rush Limbaugh get crucified by the media for insinuating that Donovan McNabb was not as good as advertised? And wasn’t it the NAACP and other race-baiting organizations that lead the charge to have Rush taken off the air for his comments? Well the hypocracy is not losst on McNabb.

McNabb, who endured Rush Limbaugh’s comments just a few years earlier, was baffled by Mondesire’s remarks.

“Especially being the same color I am,” McNabb told the Philadelphia Inquirer. “Obviously if it’s someone else who is not African American, it’s racism. But when someone of the same race talks about you because you’re selling out because you’re not running the ball, it goes back to: What are we really talking about here?

“If you talk about my play, that’s one thing. When you talk about my race, now we’ve got problems. If you’re trying to make a name off my name, again, I hope your closet is clean because something is going to come out about you … I always thought the NAACP supported African Americans and didn’t talk bad about them. Now you learn a little bit more.”

Welcome to the real world Donovan! And don’t be surprised if some rap artist accuses you of not liking Black people.

Kwanzaa Claus is coming to town!

I have never really given Kwanzaa much thought. I have always thought of it as a harmless, although futile attempt by my fellow Black Americans to get in touch with their African roots and deny their American heritage.

But I have to admit that I was disturbed to see an announcement that this year’s Sacramento area Kwanzaa Celebration was being co-sponsored by the All African Peoples Revolutionary Party (A-ARP) , a group that among other things advocates armed revolution against the American Government. And I had to wonder why Black folks would celebrate a holiday founded by a man who was convicted of brutally torturing black women?

A 2002 article published in Front Page Magazine highlights the charges against Kwanzaa’s founder, Dr. Ron Karenga and gives a detailed insight into the violent history this man who was also the head of an armed revolutionary movement/Cult known as US (United Slaves).

I find it hard to believe that anyone knowing the background of Dr. Karenga would legitimize him or this holiday. For all Kwanzaa’s emphasis on “Unity”, it is interesting how most, if not all of the violent acts by Karenga’s US were against Black People.

On Jan. 17, 1969, about 150 students gathered in a lunchroom to discuss the situation. Two Panthers—admitted to UCLA like many of the black students as part of a federal program that put high-school dropouts into the school—apparently spent a good part of the meeting in verbal attacks against Karenga. This did not sit well with Karenga’s followers, many of whom had adopted the look of their leader, pseudo-African clothing and a shaved head.

In modern gang parlance, you might say Karenga was “dissed” by John Jerome Huggins, 23, and Alprentice “Bunchy” Carter, 26. After the meeting, the two Panthers were met in the hallway by two brothers who were members of US, George P. and Larry Joseph Stiner. The Stiners pulled pistols and shot the two Panthers dead. One of the Stiners took a bullet in the shoulder, apparently from a Panther’s gun.

There were other beatings and shooting in Los Angeles involving US, but by then the tradition of African nationalism had already taken hold—

While this Front Page piece is largely opinion, the facts sited in it appear to be true. This is why, I felt it necessary to share the truth about Kwanzaa and its founder; so that those who read it can know what I now know.

Kwanzaa is a sham. And like many, I was guilty of allowing ignorance to fuel my passivity and apathy toward this absurd celebration that founded by a man who practiced none of its principles.

So…You better not shout… You better not cry… You better not pout… I’m telling you why… Kwanzaa Claus is coming to town! AND HE’LL BEAT THE SNOT OUT OF YOU IF YOU DO!

Jesse Lee Peterson & Jessie Jackson- Pimpin Race for the Right and the Left

Can you guess who made the following Statement?

Everyone knows most of black America is screwed up – immoral, dependent, weak – but so few are able to say so.

A. David Duke
B. Senator Robert Byrd
C. “Bull” Conner
D. Jesse Lee Peterson

The answer is D. Jesse Lee Peterson!

Can someone please explain to me why Jesse Lee Peterson is any less a self promoting race pimp than Jessie Jackson? Hasn’t he too made his career by pandering to the lowest emotions in the hearts of Americans? The only difference is that one panders to liberals and the other to conservatives.

Liberals trot out blacks like Jessie Jackson, Al Sharpton or Charlie Rangel every time they need someone to play the race card against conservatives. And now conservative media outlets like Fox News and WorldNet Daily are giving place to folks like Jesse Lee Peterson; who use their black face to give voice to some very racist sentiments. Sentiments that many believe, but dare not voice out loud.
Take for example this statement offered in a recent Op-Ed published at World Net Daily:

Everyone knows most of black America is screwed up – immoral, dependent, weak – but so few are able to say so.

This opinion was not offered by Adolph Hitler, David Duke or any other well known racist. These words (which by the way have absolutely no factual basis) are those of none other than Jesse Lee Peterson.

I must admit that Peterson is correct in that too often black leadership has looked to the government to solve the deeply systemic problems in the black community. He is also right when he points out that many of the ills we face as blacks are the result of immorality, dependence and lack of accountability for our own decisions and actions. But this can be said of all Americans, not just blacks. So to declare that most of black America is “immoral, dependent and weak” is nothing more than irresponsible race-baiting designed to inflame negative, preconceived notions about black that are held by many in this country. They read Jesse Lee’s stuff and circulate it as gospel, proclaiming:

“I thought along the same lines as your sentiments, but as a white I would never voice such words for fear of being called a racist and worse.” Another wrote: “Even as I sit here writing to you I’m breaking out in a sweat for fear of being called a racist.” Another said: “That was an excellent article, and unfortunately it could only be said by another African-American.”

Like Jackson, Peterson does not let the truth get in the way of perfectly good rhetoric. And like Jackson, he too used Hurricane Katrina as an opportunity to play the race card in his September 21st piece entitled Moral Poverty Costs Blacks in New Orleans where he wrote:

About five years ago, in a debate before the National Association of Black Journalists, I stated that if whites were to just leave the United States and let blacks run the country, they would turn America into a ghetto within 10 years. The audience, shall we say, disagreed with me strongly. Now I have to disagree with me. I gave blacks too much credit. It took a mere three days for blacks to turn the Superdome and the convention center into ghettos, rampant with theft, rape and murder.

Today, we know that most of the stories of “theft, rape and murder” were nothing more than urban legends and unsubstantiated rumors that the main stream media and politicians across the political spectrum simply accepted as fact. Even prominent conservative commentator Hugh Hewitt pointed out that race may have had less to do with what happened in New Orleans; and more to do with how it was reported by a MSM who was all too quick to believe the worst of low-income blacks. (See Hugh Hewitt Agrees…Racism Played Role in Katrina Reporting )

But did Jesse Lee change his rhetoric once his analogy was no longer applicable? Of course not!

His goal is not to tell the truth, but to stir up racial tensions by telling conservatives that liberals and blacks are what is wrong with this country. Sound familiar? This tactic is not too different from those of Jessie Jackson who has made a career of declaring to liberals that whites and conservatives are what is wrong with America.

In reality they are both right… But they are also both wrong!

At 36 years old, I am a part of the first generation to grow up after the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. So unlike my father, or his father before him, I was born “Equal under the law.” But that did not mean that I was born in a system that promoted equality. 400 years of slavery, the subsequent 100 years of Jim Crow and the liberal led welfare/entitlement state did much to weaken the black man and destroy his family and community. These systems were designed to keep blacks down and that is exactly what they did. The reason many blacks have a victim mentality is that not too long ago, they were victims.

Take my father for example. He left the Air force after World War II as a fully trained and certified electrician. For my parents, everything in society told them that it was government and whites who were in control…not them.

I also realize that there are those whom I will encounter who will prejudge me based on the color of my skin, whether they admit it or not.

As I approach each challenge, I can choose see it as a stumbling block or a stepping stone; as an obstacle or a building block. I can choose to fight against ignorance and poverty or I can pawn it off on my children for them to fight it. These are my choices.

I have a message that I encourage every black parent…scratch that… every parent to tell their children. It is what my father told me many moons ago and it has served me well.

Life isn’t fair…GET OVER IT!

Your future will mostly be shaped by the decisions that you make, and no one else. Where you end up in life will be the result of all the choices you make, big and small. And when it is all said and done, your success or failure will be determined, not by the circumstances which you had to face, but by how you responded to those circumstances.

Hugh Hewitt Agrees…Racism Played Role in Katrina Reporting

Hugh Hewitt in a September 27th interview with Heath Allen, a local NBC News Anchor in New Orleans raises a question that I have been asking for weeks now… Did race or rather racism play a role in the MSM’s reporting of the events surrounding the Hurricane Katrina disaster?

When I posted Racist Media Reports on Katrina- Black People Loot, White People Find and Does Race Matter? Katrina Picture Controversy Raises Interesting Questions. Conservatives jumped down my throat for even suggesting that race played any roll in the media coverage.

Here’s the transcript from the show where Hugh raises the question. I found it at Radioblogger:

HH: Now let me ask you a tough question, though, Heath.

HA: Okay.

HH: Was the hysteria, were the lurid stories of violence, the urban myths, easier for media to swallow, because most of the people swept up in this were the urban underclass, and most of them were African-American? In other words, they were willing to believe the worst about those people in the mainstream media?

HA: I hope not. I hope not. There was so much misery that was here anyway. And it crossed economic lines, and it crossed racial lines. The storm really didn’t make any differentiation there. And I wouldn’t say that. You know, misery on the face of a white person, or misery on the face of a black person is misery, no matter what. And that’s the picture that was being taken down here, and there was certainly enough of it to go around.

HH: But many lies and myths got spread that I don’t think would have been spread about an upper-middle class, white group of people.

Like Hugh I believe that the hyped up (and often made up) stories and unsubstantiated tales of anarchy, murder and rape were reported as fact because the MSM found it easy to believe that low-income blacks are capable of such behavior. And sadly, far to many of us who know better than to trust the MSM believed what we saw because we too were willing to believe it could be true.

Man, do I feel vindicated! Thanks Hugh!
